THE ORLOFF SIGNATURE COLLECTION'S SUSTAINABLE LEGACY

Having learnt from the start to live in an island where cars are banished, the Orloff signature collection (hotel and suites) is following sustainable policies with low Carbone print footage, for a few years now, following a natural life style on a car free island.

The Boutique hotel and the Legacy suites have been built by hand by local craftsmen and all material has been transported by men or mules, fact that has considerably elevated the cost of construction by at least one third.

The adoption of such a philosophy is only natural on Hydra where life unfolds at the same rhythm as in a bygone era.

SUSTAINABLE BEAUTY AND WELLNESS PRACTICES

Concerning the commercial activities in Athens, we increasingly represent more Vegan, Natural and Organic brands, in skin care as well as in perfumes, brands tending to include more than 95% natural ingredients in their formulas, plus using recyclable card board packaging or glass, instead of plastic.

In our Orloff spa venues, we have minimized the use of paper and plastic, using our own linens for all treatments.

In 2022 the Orloff boutique hotel, has adopted the tetra pack paper packaging for water, either from Minoa, or Theoni brands, in order to supply the mini bars in the hotel rooms.

Room cleaning is realized using mainly liquid green soap and banishing aggressive chemical cleaners. Chlore-derived gel is used only as a toilet disinfectant, while in search of an eco-friendly alternative. Linens are changed every two days and washed in the hotel eco-efficient state of the art Miele laundry with environment-friendly products.

Guests are encouraged to minimize their water consumption in the bathroom, according to a specific protocol. The two buildings Orloff boutique hotel and Orloff Legacy suites, have kept their own cistern units, a traditional water deposit collecting rain water throughout winter, that is used in summer if there is a water shortage as well as for watering the plants in the garden.

The maintenance of the courtyards and the traditional garden, full of Mediterranean fruit trees and aromatic plants, ensure rest and relaxation to guests throughout the season, especially in high temperatures, without necessarily the use of air-conditioning. In the new smart building of the Legacy Suites, the heating pump system as well as the electricity are connected to a technologically advanced KNX network, ensuring control of electricity consumption at a distance, automatically adapting lights around the clock thus minimizing energy consumption while increasing guest comfort.

Guests are proposed to do outdoor activities like trekking, swimming, fishing, exploring the traditional architecture of Hydra town, through the guidance of locals, to discover the unspoiled nature of the island.

Food served at the hotel breakfast is locally sourced, especially coming from across the bay from the Peloponnese, allowing our guests to taste the famous cheeses from Tracheia, in Argolida. Our cakes are homemade, as well as the lemonade made from our own lemon trees. We try to avoid products that need to travel long distances in order to reach us.
